Our Programs
Children retain new skills when they are having fun and are motivated to participate in the learning process. Our programs focus on building a positive learning environment and engaging children in multi-sensory activities. Our whole brain learning approach includes removing stress; recognizing individual performance, experience, and interest; allowing time for frequent reviews during the learning process; and recognizing that learning and emotion are connected. Daily accomplishments are always recognized, which reinforces your child's confidence and puts the focus on what they are doing well.
The goal is to provide positive learning experiences and motivate your child to do their best and get excited about handwriting!
Teacher and Parent Education:
Our goal is to guide not only our students but parents and teachers as well. If you or a group you belong to would like to learn more about fine motor skill development and handwriting success, we are your local experts. Feel free to call us with your questions or to schedule a presentation or in-service.
Evaluation:
The focus of our Handwriting Skills Assessment is to determine why your child may be struggling with handwriting. A licensed and registered occupational therapist will gather information about your child's hand skill function, occulomotor skills and upper body strength and stability, along with pencil grip, letter formation and overall handwriting legibility. This vital information will allow our staff to develop a program of individualized instruction that fits your child's specific needs. It also provides a baseline from which to gage progress, modify teaching techniques and facilitate advancement to the next skill level.
Individual Instruction:
The most significant and long lasting progress is accomplished when your child is given the opportunity to work 1:1 with an occupational therapist. Pediatric occupational therapy practitioners are skilled professionals whose education includes the study of human growth and development with specific emphasis on social, emotional, physiological and fine motor development. Our therapists are developmental handwriting specialists and as such, are the most qualified to facilitate both fine motor skill development and the complex skill of handwriting, for your child. A Functional Skills Assessment by Helping Hands Write staff is required prior to the start of this individualized program.
After-School Classes
Helping Hands Write currently offers small group classes on the campuses of Rancho Solano Private Schools. These classes are offered to non-Rancho Solano students as well. Call for locations and a schedule of classes.
Summer Camp
Let Helping Hands Write help your child sharpen their skills, build their confidence and get them excited about handwriting. Our summer camps always maintain a low student to instructor ratio (only 4 students in each camp class) providing your child with the opportunity to receive the attention they need to become confident and successful with the essentials of handwriting. As always, your child will remain in the experienced hands of licensed occupational therapists and certified teachers. Focus will be on hand skills development, proper pencil grip, correct top to bottom letter formation as well as sizing, stroke and spacing.
